The Stockholm Water Prize is awarded to people and organisations for extraordinary water-related achievements by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in cooperation with Stockholm Water Foundation.
The laureate is announced every year, usually in March in conjunction with World Water Day. The prize is presented by H. M. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, who is the official patron of the prize, at the awarding ceremony during World Water Week in August.
The Stockholm Water Prize has been awarded annually since 1991. It started as part of the Stockholm Water Festival, and over the years, it has been presented to women, men and organisations who have made exceptional contributions to the understanding and protection of water. It has thereby contributed to expanding our understanding of water and to make new ideas more widely shared so that they can influence policy and practice.
