Vacancy: Research Assistant on food retail engagement for food system transformation at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences

The research programme Global Economic Dynamics and the Biosphere (GEDB) at The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is hiring a Reseach Assistant to work on the project “Retail for Sustainability – Mid-value chain engagement for food system transformation” (ReSus).

About the position

The ReSus project under the Global Economic Dynamics and the Biosphere (GEDB) is advertising a 5-months reseach assistant (RA) position with the possibility of extension, which will focus on analysing the sustainability performance of supermarkets, in Sweden and internationally. The work will primarily be desk-based and include compiling and analysing exysting data, as well as data collection though interviews. The research assistant will also assist in facilitating transdisciplinary dialogues with food retailers in the project’s industry reference group. As the topic is highly interdisciplinary, we will welcome applications from candidates from a diversity of disciplinary and methodological backgrounds.

The candidate must have a permanent residency permit in Sweden and a work permit to be eligible for the position and are expected to work mostly from the office in Stockholm.

About you

 Applicants are expected to hold a degree in a relevant discipline/field, e.g. sustainability science, food systems, economics or policitcal science. The following criteria will be used for assessing candidates:

  • Relevant expertise: A track record demonstrating experience in sustainability science research, environmental or ecological economics, policical science or other releant field. Experience in handling both quantitative and qualitative data is valued but not mandatory.
  • Independence: Ability to work independenely with supervision from a mentor.
  • Collaboration skills: Ability to work as a part of team.
  • Communication skills: Ability to clearly communicate research ideas and results, both in writing and orally. Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English.

Desirable qualifications

  • Professional Working Proficiency in Swedish.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.

Duration

100% for 5 months with possible/likely extension, starting from as soon as possible (start date is negotiable).

Salary

According to agreement.
