Narges Mohammadi is an Iranian engineer, physicist, and human rights defender who is currently serving a 16-year sentence in Tehran’s Evin Prison, on charges related to her peaceful human rights activities. The Human Rights Committee urges the Iranian leaders to release Narges Mohammadi and, in the interim, ensure that her conditions of confinement conform to the U.N. Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (the Nelson Mandela Rules). They emphasize in particular that she should be allowed to communicate regularly with her family and be provided with regular access to adequate medical care.
