The Human Rights Committee once again urge leaders of the Iranian government to immediately release the scientist Ahmadreza Djalali. On Tuesday morning alarming signals came from Iran that the death sentence against Ahmadreza Djalali might soon be carried out.
Dr Ahmadreza Djalali is at risk of being executed in Iran. Dr Djalali, who lives in Sweden, was arrested when visiting Iran 4.5 years ago.He was later sentenced to death for, among other things, espionage in a trial described by human rights organisations as very deficient and completely without legal certainty.
Since his arrest Dr Djalali has been detained under harsh conditions and his health has severely deteriorated. On Tuesday morning alarming signals came from Iran that the death sentence against Ahmadreza Djalali might soon be carried out.
The Human Rights Committee of Sweden’s Scientific and Literary Academies, together with international organisations, have for many years urged the Iranian government to release Dr Djalali. Given this new alarming information, the Committee has once again written to the leaders of the Iranian government urging Dr Djalalis release.
