The Swedish National Committee for Geophysics awarded the 2024 Rossby Price to Páll Einarsson, professor emeritus at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik. The Committee organises a seminar with lectures by the Laureate and invited speakers.
The Role of Geophysics in Society: Volcanoes, Earthquakes, and Climate-Related Landslides
Geophysical studies of the Earth’s crust reveal the processes shaping our planet and help mitigate risks posed by seismic activity, volcanic eruptions, and landslides. By improving monitoring techniques and developing better methods, geophysicists play a vital role in safeguarding society. Effective communication—both with stakeholders and the public—is equally crucial to ensure these insights lead to meaningful action.
