Beskrivning

Popular science writing is a way of communicating scientific development for a broader audience. But popular science writing also fills a need within the scientific society. Researchers who formulate their research in a way that is intended for a general audience are forced to summarize their knowledge in a new way, which might create new perspectives and ideas both for themselves and among their colleagues.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences believes that promotion of popular science is of crucial importance for the relation between science and society. The Academy is now planning for a couple of international half-day seminars on the theme popular science writing. At this first seminar Frans de Waal, Professor of Primate Behavior at Emory University, USA will give a talk about the meaning of his writing as well as some practical advice related to writing. The talk will be followed by comments from some Swedish researchers with experience from both de Waals scientific field as well as experience from popular science writing. There will also be plenty of time for comments and questions from the audience.
